Walking Tour

Created by members of Boy Scout Troop 26 of Barnegat under the supervision of Eagle Scout candidate Christopher Brower, a self-guided walking tour of some of the historic sites in Barnegat’s downtown is now available.

Christopher created a printable brochure including site descriptions and a map which is available for printing by clicking the link below. Highlighted on the tour is a marker for the former site of an opera house, railroad related sites, the former site  of Perrine Boat Works (known for their Sneakboxes), the Cox House, Wright Presbyterian Church and Mariner’s Masonic Lodge. There are other sites included on the tour as well.

The tour begins at a sign in the park on the corner of Route 9 and East Bay Avenue and can be customized to last approximately 26 to 57 minutes. Tour participants can choose to stay within a few blocks of downtown Barnegat or add the Rail Trail Extension and/or the Barnegat Historical Society Heritage Village Extension.
